“Enshittification” - the process by which online platforms actively choose to decay - was 2023’s word of the year.1 Once a platform gets large enough off OUR content, they start to make themselves worse and worse, squeezing us harder and harder for our data and their profits!
We don’t need to live this way. We can re-centre platforms on connecting with our friends and family, and enjoying our everyday lives.
Bring back the chronological feed. On every single platform we use, we should get the option to choose to see just the posts from the people we follow, in the order they’re shared.
Picture it: just the people you like and trust, talking to you, in order. No embedded ads. No ragebait from strangers inserted to upset you and keep you logged in. No easy access for bots and scammers to your feed and your home.
But it won’t happen if we let the basic information we get about the world each day keep being driven by algorithms that want us angry, scared, and buying products, NOT calm, connected and informed.
That’s why we’re starting a simple petition that demands just ONE thing: the option of simple chronological feed, EVERYWHERE we go online. We’ll deliver this petition to every platform that doesn’t offer the simple chronological feed, and if they don’t listen, we’ll share it with governments and ask them to mandate it.
The Internet can be a calmer, warmer, and better place, but we’re going to have to FIGHT for it. If you haven’t signed our petition to Fix the Feed yet, click here
