With the renewed pressure COVID-19 put on affordable Internet, many folks had faith the government would finally deliver. But a year later, we’ve seen no progress — and at times, they’ve even contributed to driving prices up. Case in point: In August 2020, federal Cabinet sided with Big Telecom in a decision over Internet wholesale rates, raising the cost of Internet for people across the country.5 The government has officially run out the clock – and Canada’s patience – on Internet affordability.
